Math
*We mastered dimes and counting by 10's, so we introduced nickles and counting by 5's. So far so good. We practiced with real money and did the same thing we did with the 10's. I put the numbers on little papers on the stairs, and then they hopped up the stairs, counting as they went.
*I also introduced "The Amazing Addition Machine"! Pretty cool huh? :) They thought it was awesome.
*I tried to do something "theme-y" for Easter, so I turned our Easter egg stash into math. Gwen's egg halves were matching numbers and that amount of dots. Miles' were addition problems with the problem on one half, and the answer on the other.
Reading
*Gwen has officially started reading. She finished her alphabet book in the middle of March and began Miles' first "Explode the Code" book towards the end of March. She loves it and is really catching on. Now we just need her fine motor skills to catch up! *Miles finally got the go ahead from his eye doctor to start reading books again. We've done plenty of word work, but we put a hold on all book reading. It was starting to stress me out. The doctor said he's seen enough improvement that it shouldn't be a problem to start now. I can tell a big difference as he reads the "Bob Books". Most of the ones he's reading are repeats for him, so with that plus his vision improvements, he's moving quickly through them.
Science
*We talked about our Urinary System this month and started learning a new song, "All Systems Go", from the "Singin' Smart" CDs. We learned the 4 basic parts, the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. We made an example of this system by adding in red, white, and yellow blood cells (pony beads), oil (plasma) and water, into a jar. Then we strained it through a colander (kidneys). Just to give them a visual about how the kidneys clean the blood.
Sensory
*The only sensory type bin I put together was this one. I cut up a bunch of old fake flowers and put them in the bin with a colander. They could create their very own floral arrangements. Yay spring!
Field Trips
Miles was able to tag along at Gwen's joy school this month, so he joined in on all the Space/Weather fun during the month. At the end of the month, we all went to the Planetarium in SLC. It's free, and so cool. We even got popcorn and treats at the end!
Rainbow Day
We co-hosted our home school group for one week this month. It was right around St. Patrick's Day, so Makenna and I combined our forces and made a party out of it. She did music time with all the kids and then I headed-up the centers. We had rainbow jello (messy but so fun), fruit loop rainbows, a rainbow beanbag toss, a few file folders games, and rainbow snacks. We read books about St. Patrick and who he really was. Fun Stuff!
